December 2002
As we reach the end of yet
another, I suddenly notice, that I am way behind on writing my
newsletters. So much has happened since the last time that I have written,
that I am not sure where to begin except to take things in their
chronological order.
The last time I wrote I was
telling you about having been able to go home for Christmas and the things
were going. So as you can see, now I have a year's news that I need to
resume in just a few lines. The first thing I could say is - The Lord has
been real good!
From January 2002 to July of
2002, I was still in Cannes and still working there. Those last few months
were some of the best of the three years. I was saw many lives changed. By
departure was a blessed time. The Christians had prepared a small party in
my honor. I would like to thank the Centre Evangélique de Cannes, the
Pastor Alain Fauchie and the members of the church for the three years
they allowed me to share with them.
As of the first of September
2002 I finished my work in Cannes and have now moved to Toulon which is a
town about an hour west of Cannes. It is still on the French Riviera, but
we don't see as many tourists as in Cannes. Toulon is a military town, and
more specifically a French naval base. We are still on the sea front, but
Toulon only has artificial beaches, for natural beached you need to drive
about 20 minutes west to La Seyne, Bandol, or Sanary sur Mer. All of which
are very beautiful towns.
My first thought when I got to
Toulon was: "This is a dark, old and dirty town." I have come to
find out that many people's first impression is the same as mine. In the
last three and a half months, I have realized that I was, unfortunately,
not far from the truth. The center of town is very old after war
constructions. (World War II). Since Toulon was pretty much completely
destroyed after the WWII, they had to rebuilt the city fast, so as to
house everyone.
